Abstract

Urdu literary criticism has undergone a significant transformation, evolving from classical to modern approaches. This article explores the development of literary criticism in Urdu, focusing on its historical foundations in classical literary theories and the shifts that have occurred with the advent of modern intellectual paradigms. The comparison between classical and contemporary criticism will highlight the key differences in their methodologies, themes, and objectives. By analyzing prominent critics and theorists from both periods, this study seeks to understand how these shifts reflect broader changes in social, cultural, and intellectual thought. Furthermore, the paper explores the ongoing relevance of these theories in understanding contemporary Urdu literature.
