Abstract

This article explores the evolving perspectives in Urdu literary criticism from historical to contemporary viewpoints. The historical evolution of literary criticism in Urdu, grounded in classical traditions, laid the foundation for modern theoretical approaches. This study examines the shift from traditional methods of interpretation to more contemporary, interdisciplinary approaches, including post-colonial, feminist, and Marxist criticism. Additionally, the article discusses how modern critics have embraced a globalized lens while remaining deeply rooted in the socio-political contexts of South Asia. By bridging the gap between historical and contemporary critiques, the study offers a comprehensive understanding of Urdu literary criticism’s current state and its potential future directions.
